Community Outreach
Community Health Coalition Partneship
CCBNC has partnered with Community Health Coalition in Durham to provide culturally sensitive and specific health education, promotion and disease prevention activities to and in Durham’s African-American community.
The Dorothy Cox Memorial Scholarship and The Patricia Ruffin Perpetual Scholarship
CCBNC sponsors two, one thousand dollar scholarships each year to assist nursing students financially as they complete their nursing education. These students are enrolled in nursing programs at HBCUs in North Carolina as well as other Colleges and Universities in the Triangle area. The scholarships are awarded during our Annual Education-Lecture Luncheon.
These students are the next generation of Nurse Leaders, Clinicians, Researchers, and Educators. CCBNC is honored to be able to provide a service that will ensure their success.
Health Promotion and Health Fairs
CCBNC strives to develop partnerships with other organizations with similar interests in community outreach to eliminate health disparities for African-Americans. The Chapter takes a lead role in developing presentations in conjunction with other organizations in addressing major health care issues in the African-American community and actively participates in Health Fairs.
A few of the organizations that we have partnered with include the Lincoln Community Health Center with Breast Health and Prostate Workshops, Community Health Coalition, Inc., Old North State Medical Society, and Durham Council for Senior Citizens
The Annual Educational Lecture-Luncheon
The chapter sponsors an Annual Educational Lecture-Luncheon during the month of December. The purpose of the luncheon is to celebrate our successes for the year, to recognize members of the organization for distinguished service, award scholarships and to foster a sense of community and fellowship among members.
The event includes a presentation on a topic that affects African-Americans and other minority health care needs or trends. Monies collected are used for the Scholarship fund.
